LG Washer Error Codes

LG front-load washers show a short code when something stops the cycle. Many of these codes have a simple fix you can do yourself. Others mean a part has failed. This guide covers the common codes, with meanings and first steps taken from LG’s US support library (LG: Front Load Washer Error Code List). Some newer LG models show an “E” number instead of letters, so we list both where LG does.

LG front-load washer codes

Code What LG says it means First steps (per LG)
OE (E03, E21) The washer can’t drain the water. Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs, run a spin-only cycle, clean the drain pump filter, then run Tub Clean and use less detergent.
IE (E02, E10) Water inlet error: the tub didn’t fill in time. Make sure the faucets are open, the inlet hoses aren’t bent, and the hose filter screens are clean.
UE Unbalanced load. Spread the laundry evenly, load about 2/3 full, and level the washer.
LE The motor can’t turn the tub (overload or a stuck object). Unplug for 5 minutes, reduce the load, check the drum for coins or objects.
dE / dE1 (E01) The door isn’t closed properly. Clear laundry from the door gasket, close the door again, and reset the washer.
dE2 (E30) The door is closed but not locked. Check for items in the gasket and for a bent or broken latch, then reset.
FE (E04, E12) Water overfill. Unplug for 60 seconds and restart. If it continues, the washer needs inspection.
PE The water level sensor isn’t working properly. Unplug for 10 seconds and restart. If PE returns, it needs repair.
tE Heating error, usually a faulty thermistor. Unplug for 10 seconds, drain, and restart. If it continues, turn off the water and unplug.
CE Over-current in the motor circuit. Unplug for 10 seconds and restart. If CE persists, it needs repair.
AE Leak detected inside the washer. Check the inlet hoses for loose connections or cuts, and unplug for 60 seconds. If it persists, book service.
PF Power failure during a cycle. With power off, hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds, then restore power.

Messages that aren’t errors

  • CL: Child lock is on. Hold the child lock button (or button pair) for 3 seconds.
  • tCL: Time to run the Tub Clean cycle.
  • Cd: Cool down at the end of a dry cycle on washer-dryer models.

All meanings and steps above are from LG’s US support library, checked October 2026. LG notes that the guide covers all models, so your washer may differ. Check your owner’s manual.

When to call a technician

  • LE keeps coming back with a normal load: the motor or its sensor may need checking. See LG washer not spinning.
  • PE, tE, CE, FE or AE persists after a reset: LG itself says these need repair service.
  • There is water on the floor: turn off the faucets and unplug the washer.
