LG Washer Not Spinning
LG loads that wash but never reach high-speed spin
LG front-loaders and top-loaders across San Francisco apartments and Peninsula laundry closets often fill and agitate, then refuse to spin. Clothes come out heavy and dripping. Direct-drive (DD) motors, door locks, drain pumps, and out-of-balance sensing are the usual suspects — not always a failed drum motor. An LE, UE, or dE-style code on the display is a useful clue, but the machine can also stop spin with no code at all.

Why an LG washer stops spinning (high level)
LG platforms cancel high-speed spin when the door lock does not confirm closed, when the tub is too far out of balance, or when water has not left the drum. A clogged drain pump filter (coins, socks, underwire) is a frequent Bay Area finding on front-loaders. Worn shocks or a damaged spider/bearing assembly can throw the tub so hard the control aborts spin. Rotor-position and stator faults on DD motors do occur, but they are diagnosed after lock and drain are proven good — not assumed from a single symptom.
- Door lock or lid switch not reporting “latched”
- UE / unbalanced load retries that end the cycle wet
- Drain pump clog, foreign object, or kinked standpipe hose
- Shock absorbers, springs, or spider/bearing wear causing tub slap
- Hall sensor, stator, or control board faults on direct-drive models
- Wiring at the lock or pump damaged by vibration or a prior flood

Safe checks — keep them non-invasive
Unplug the washer before moving it or opening the pump access. Never defeat a door lock to force spin, and never probe live motor windings:
- Redistribute a single heavy item (rug, comforter, soaked towel) and try a smaller, even load.
- Confirm the door or lid fully latches; clean debris from the latch pocket.
- Listen for the drain pump at the end of wash; standing water in the drum blocks spin.
- On front-loaders, check the user-accessible drain-filter door for coins if your model has one — catch water in a pan.
- Photograph any error code before power-cycling once.
Do not jumper the lock, cut into the cabinet to “test” the DD motor, or run the machine with the door switch bypassed. Those shortcuts create shock and flood risk. If you smell burning, the breaker trips, or the tub grinds metal-on-metal, stop and call a technician.
When to call for LG washer repair
Schedule service when every load stays soaked, the tub never reaches high speed, water remains after drain, grinding or loud thumps accompany spin attempts, or the door will not unlock after a failed cycle. Weekday same-day windows are often available by route. Hours are Mon–Fri 8am–5pm.

What diagnosis looks like on an LG
We verify lock and drain first, then check drive and suspension parts that match your LG platform, and explain repair versus replace with clear findings. Many not-spinning LG washers return to service with a lock, pump, shock, or sensor repair when the tub and basket are sound. Qualifying repairs include 90-day parts and labor, and we work under California BEAR #46247.
