Most washers we get called out for aren't dead. They've stopped draining, stopped spinning, or started walking across the laundry room floor. Usually it's one part: a pump, a lid switch, a door lock, a shock absorber or a board. We carry the common ones on the truck and use OEM parts.

Common washer problems we fix

Won't drain

Usually a clogged drain pump filter or a failed pump. Socks and coins are the usual suspects. On some top-loaders it's the lid switch telling the machine it's not safe to drain.

Won't spin

Door lock or lid switch, a worn drive belt, motor coupling, or the machine thinks the load is off balance and gives up. A single heavy towel can do it.

Leaking

Front-loaders: torn door boot or a clogged drain that backs up. Top-loaders: tub seal, hose or the pump. We find where the water starts before we replace anything.

Shaking or banging

Worn shock absorbers, suspension springs or a bad tub bearing. If it sounds like a jet engine on spin, it's probably the bearing.

Error code on the display

Samsung, LG and Whirlpool codes usually point us to the right part quickly. Write the code down before you turn it off.

Smells bad

Mold in the door boot or a drain that isn't fully emptying. Often fixable without parts; we'll tell you if that's all it is.

Frequently asked questions

How much does washer repair cost?

Washer repairs start from $275, and the final price depends on the brand, model and part. The $219 service call is free if you go ahead with the repair, and you get the exact price before we start.

Is it worth fixing an older washer?

If it's under about 10 years old and the drum and bearings are fine, a pump, lock or belt is almost always worth fixing. A bad tub bearing on an older machine is where we'll tell you to think about replacing it.

Do you fix stacked washer-dryer units?

Yes. Stacked and compact units take a little more work to get into, but we fix them all the time in Bay Area condos and flats.

Can I keep using it if it's leaking?

Turn it off and close the water valves behind it. A small leak can wreck a subfloor, and in an apartment it ends up in the neighbor's ceiling.
