LG Dryer Error Codes

Short answer: on an LG dryer, d80, d90 and d95 mean the exhaust is about 80, 90 or 95 percent blocked somewhere between the dryer and the outside. That’s a vent problem, not a broken dryer, and most of it you can check. tE codes point to a temperature sensor, PS and nP to the power supply, and HS to the moisture sensor bars inside the drum.

Common LG dryer codes

Code What LG says it means What you can do
d75, d80, d90, d95, Flow Sense bars Airflow is restricted between the dryer and the outside exhaust, by about that percentage. On a gas dryer, LG says d80 can also mean the dryer isn’t getting gas. Work through the vent check below, starting at the lint screen.
tE1, tE2, tE3 A problem with the dryer’s thermistor (temperature sensor). tE2 often shows in cold weather, or during steam cycles when the duct cools quickly. Cut power, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, restore power and run a cycle. For tE2, clean the lint screen and check the outside vent too.
PS Wrong voltage at the power cord. LG says the red and white wires may be reversed on the terminal block. Turn the dryer’s breaker off for at least 10 seconds, then back on. If PS stays, have the cord wiring checked. Don’t open the terminal block with the dryer plugged in.
nP No current detected at the heater, usually a house wiring problem. Reset the breaker the same way. If nP stays, LG recommends having an electrician check the 240V outlet.
HS The humidity (moisture) sensor has a problem. The dryer will run about 2½ hours, so it looks like it isn’t drying. Clean the two metal sensor bars inside the drum, below the lint filter, and let them dry.
dE, dE4 The door isn’t fully closed. Push the lint filter all the way in, check for clothes in the door, unplug for 5 seconds and try again.
gAS A gas dryer isn’t getting gas. Make sure the gas shutoff behind the dryer is open and the line isn’t kinked. Don’t loosen any fittings.
FO The lint filter isn’t seated. Pull it out and slide it back in.

Meanings checked against LG’s US help library in October 2026. LG writes its guides for all models, so check your owner’s manual too.

Clearing a d80, d90 or d95

LG breaks the vent check into four places. Unplug the dryer before you pull it out from the wall.

  1. Inside the dryer. Empty the lint screen every load. Every so often, wash it with warm water and a soft brush, because dryer sheets leave a film that blocks air even when it looks clean. Smaller loads also help air move through.
  2. Behind the dryer. The hose between the dryer and the wall gets crushed when the dryer is pushed back. Look for dents, kinks, holes, loose joints, or a hose coiled up like a spring.
  3. Outside. Find where the vent leaves the building. Run the dryer on Air Dry and check that the flapper opens all the way. Pull out any lint you can see.
  4. Inside the walls. If the code is still there, the duct inside the walls needs cleaning. That’s a job for a dryer vent cleaner. Ask them for the total length of the run and the number of 90-degree turns.

That last step is where a lot of Bay Area homes get stuck. Plenty of dryers here vent through a long run to a light well or up through the roof. LG notes that long runs with several elbows can trigger these codes and are hard to trace, so a perfectly clean but very long duct can still show d80.

Messages that aren’t faults

  • CL: child lock is on. Hold the Child Lock button for 3 to 5 seconds.
  • PF: the power went out mid-cycle. Cut power, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, then restore power.
  • Add Water: the steam feeder drawer is empty. Fill it with tap water to the MAX line.

When to call

  • The vent has been cleaned end to end and d80 or d90 still comes back
  • A tE code returns after the 5-second reset
  • nP or PS stays after an electrician confirms the outlet is right
  • HS comes back after cleaning the sensor bars, or clothes stay damp on every cycle
  • You smell burning, or the outside of the dryer gets very hot (unplug it)

Common questions

Can I keep using my LG dryer with a d80 code?

It will still run, but slowly, and it runs hotter than it should. We would clear the vent before doing many more loads. Lint collecting near a heater is a fire risk, and a restricted vent also wears out the heater and the thermal parts that protect it.

How do I reset an LG dryer error code?

LG's reset for most codes is the same: unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker, press and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds while it has no power, then restore power and start a cycle. If the code returns, the cause is still there.

Why does my LG dryer show d90 right after a vent cleaning?

Check the hose behind the dryer first. It often gets crushed when the dryer is pushed back against the wall. Then check that the outside flapper opens fully. On a gas dryer, LG says d80 can also mean low gas supply. If all of that is fine, the duct run may simply be too long or have too many elbows.
