Common microwave problems we fix

Runs but doesn't heat

High-voltage diode, capacitor, magnetron or a door switch. This one needs a tech: the capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even unplugged.

Dead, no display

A blown fuse, often from a bad door switch, or a failed control board.

Turntable won't turn

Turntable motor or the coupler underneath.

Sparking inside

Damaged waveguide cover, metal in the cavity, or chipped paint inside. Stop using it until it's checked.

Vent fan or light out (over-the-range)

Fan motor, a switch or the bulbs. The fan matters if it's your only stove vent.

How much does microwave repair cost?

Built-in and over-the-range microwave repairs start from $250. The final price depends on the brand, model and part. The $219 service call is free if you go ahead with the repair.

Do you fix countertop microwaves?

Usually not worth it. A new countertop unit often costs less than the repair. We focus on built-in, over-the-range and drawer models.

Can I fix a microwave myself?

We don't recommend it. The high-voltage capacitor can hold a charge after it's unplugged and can seriously hurt you.

My over-the-range microwave fan won't turn off. Why?

Usually a stuck switch or a control board relay. Some models also run the fan on purpose when the stove below gets hot.
